New fluctuation-driven phase transitions and critical phenomena in unconventional superconductors
نویسنده
چکیده
Using the renormalization group method, new type of fluctuation-driven first order phase transitions and critical phenomena are predicted for certain classes of ferromagnetic superconductors and superfluids with unconventional (spin-triplet) Cooper pairing. The problem for the quantum phase transitions at extremely low and zero temperatures is also discussed. The results can be applied to a wide class of ferromagnetic superconductive and superfluid systems, in particular, to itinerant ferromagnets as UGe2 and URhGe. Pacs: 05.70.Jk,74.20.De, 75.40.Cx

Magnetic effects on the phase transitions in unconventional superconductors
The effect of magnetic fluctuations on the critical behaviour of unconventional ferromagnetic superconductors (UGe2, URhGe, etc.) and superfluids is investigated by the renormalization-group method. For the case of isotropic ferromagnetic order a new unusual critical behaviour is predicted. It is also shown that the uniaxial and bi-axial magnetic symmetries produce fluctuation driven phase tran...

The critical behavior of the model with N–vector complex order parameter and three quartic coupling constants which describes phase transitions in unconventional superconductors, helical magnets, stacked triangular antiferromagnets, superfluid helium–3 and zero–temperature transitions in fully frustrated Josephson–junction arrays is studied within the field–theoretical renormalization group (RG...
متن کاملQuantum critical “opalescence” around metal-insulator transitions
Divergent carrier-density fluctuations equivalent to the critical opalescence of gas-liquid transition emerge around a metal-insulator critical point at a finite temperature. In contrast to the gas-liquid transitions, however, the critical temperature can be lowered to zero, which offers a challenging quantum phase transition. We present a microscopic description of such quantum critical phenom...
متن کاملQuasi-critical fluctuations: a novel state of matter?
Quasi-critical fluctuations occur close to critical points or close to continuous phase transitions. In three-dimensional systems, precision tuning is required to access the fluctuation regime. Lowering the dimensionality enhances the parameter space for quasi-critical fluctuations considerably. This enables one to make use of novel properties emerging in fluctuating systems, such as giant susc...
متن کاملFluctuational Transitions and Critical Phenomena in a Periodically Driven Nonlinear Oscillator Subject to Weak Noise
'Fluctuation-induced transitions between coexisting periodic attractors in a periodically driven nonlinear oscillator have been investigated theoretically and by analogue electronic experiment. Calculations and measurements of the corresponding activation energies are in good agreement, and have enabled the position of the kinetic phase transition (KPT) line to be established over its full range.
